Hmm... apparently Surina is behind that doorway.. now how to go about going in there..

He rubbed his chin as he considered this conundrum

He grabbed his sword and froze the tentacle eyed thing in thick ice.

    (Onu-Koro, Great Mine, Secret Lab):

Hile collapsed, relieved, as Azthran froze the machine. Some of the tentacles were sticking out of the ice, but were motionless.

Kirgan returned to the room just in time to hear Azthran's question.

"How should I know?" he said. "I've never been here before."

"It's a robot", Hile said. "An advanced one, too. I wonder how it can be, considering..."

The added weight of the ice made one of the mechanical legs of the robot snap. The machine crashed to the ground with a resounding crash, frozen and broken.

"Machines cannot die", Hile remarked. "It's broken."

"Whatever", Kirgan said. "Maybe we should try out the door."

The group walked to the second door, but found it locked. It had the symbol of the three virtues engraved on it, with each of the virtue dots having been replaced by empty slots. Beside the door, there was text in an unknown language.

"It's a good thing we have the Rau now", Kirgan said with a smile.

  • IC: Demos - The Archive

"There is a meeting in progress in there," the owner informed the Skakdi. "I don't think they want to be distrubed."

IC: Shadd - Great Mine, near the secret lab

"Did they go this way...?" Tracking the footprints in the hard earth as best he could, the archaeologist followed the dim trail left by his acquaintance on his search. He was already running late, he didn't want to miss anything important.

After finding another point where they had turned, he picked up his pace. This tunnel looked like it had been made recently, and rather crudely. The lack of support structures made him nervous, but he wasn't about to miss out on account of it. He soon hear voices.

"Kirgan?" he called out hesitantly, afraid to make too much noise.

Hile took a look at Xaron. "Poke it?" he said. "Sounds cool."

    "Kirgan?"

The distant voice came from somewhere outside the lab, back at the tunnel. Kirgan recognized the voice as that of Shadd, an old friend of his.

"Wait here, guys", Kirgan said to the others. "I know who that is. I've been expecting him."

Kirgan ran outside, through the hallway and the metallic door, back to the abandoned tunnel. He saw Shadd there, walking uncertainly towards him. It had been many months since he had last seen him.

"Shadd?" Kirgan said. "You found your way, after all."

Kirgan led Shadd to the large metallic wall and through the door.

    "...and finally this chamber."

Now Shadd was in the same room with all the rest. The dominant sight was the frozen, battered fighting machine lying on the ground. Then there was the door on the other side, which Azthran was busy translating.

"Guys, this is Shadd, an archeologist", Kirgan introduced their new addition to the team.

  • OOC:

Wow, things really exploded into action during my absence. Anyways, I'd just thought I'd point out a few, ah, errors on the part of Toatapio Nuva and company.

The first is the all this talk of a 'meeting', a meeting that, I might point out, was only referred to as such OOC, and actually consists of nothing more than a private appointment between Rhea, Mar, and (later) Surina. See the included quotes below, the first of which is the actual notice in question.

The second is that everyone seems to have completely overlooked Rhea's deliberate, misleading IC lie as to when this appointment was arranged for. Again, see the included quotes.

The third is that the 'meeting' did not originally seem to be taking place in a private room, but since Mj. doesn't seem to have a problem with that, I don't mind. It give me more IC time to plan and take action without interference. :P

In conclusion, then, I'm not going to say that anyone need to re-write anything. I'm just going to roll with it and assume (IC) that the pursuit of Surina had followed up a few abnormally accurate hunched and tracked her down before they were expected to.

But I'd just like to mention it, so's it doesn't happen again. ;)

    IC: [ Rhea ] - Onu-Koro

    Available for hire-

    One experienced, intelligent,

    able-bodied bounty hunter.

    Specializes in escaped convicts,

    fugitives, runners of all sorts.

    Price varies by job; subject

    to negotiation.

    Currently lodging in Onu-Koro.

    Ask for ‘Rhea’; the Ussalry

    knows me well.

    IC: [ Rhea ] - Onu-Koro

"As for the Ga-Matoran... I do not know where she is at this moment." she continued, truthfully. "I do not know who she is or what it is she wanted. We made arrangements to meet at the Wise Man's Archive tomorrow morning, at six o'clock. She is, I must admit, a suspicious character. She had the criminal air about her; I know what I'm talking about, seeing as how my business is the pursuit and capture of such."

    IC: [ Rhea ] - Onu-Koro / Wise Man's Archive

Rhea nodded, then walked over and joined Mar, Nero, and the Ga-Matoran at the table in the corner. This area of the bookstore was quiet, out-of-the-way, dimly lit save for an ornate lightstone lamp resting on a shelf nearby.

    IC: [ Rhea ] - Onu-Koro / Wise Man's Archive

Rhea broke off short, facial muscles tense, as Mar growled suddenly, "We've got company."

The Ga-Matoran. Someone's tracking her down. Karzahni.

It was time for instantaneous improvised action, and without hesitation, Rhea made her decision.

Under her breath, the words coming quick and clear and nearly inaudible, she replied, "Don't stop talking. Whoever it is, they can wait. We're doing nothing illegal... nothing, you hear me? We don't know who this Ga-Matoran is; I met her on the street and she expressed interest in hiring me. We didn't do anything; we don't plan to do anything; we know nothing."

    It was true. Partially.

    OOC:

...meh, not a great or really adequate bit of writing. I'm pressed for time now; would have liked to have done more IC this post, but fate has conspired against me. I'll be back tomorrow to pick up the pieces again. :P

He turned to Kirgan's friend Shadd, who decided to join in the group.

Nearby, Kirgan smiled at Xaron. He talked to Shadd: "This is Xaron, a Matoran of Mangetism. Feran and Sulkua already introduced themselves. The Ko-Matoran over there is Hile and the other ice Toa with the Rau is Azthran. As you see we're already getting somewhere."

    OOC:

I've always viewed IC time as relative. To the Rhea/Nero/Mar/Surina group, maybe ten or fifteen minutes have passed; to the Tuli/Viima/etc. company, maybe several hours? So no matter which way you look at it, I think we're all still in the same day; no one's mentioned a night passing. If anything, the former group should get a several hours' free moves to make up for the timeskip on the latters' parts. :P Who knows? Realistically, Surina could be well on her way to Ga-Koro by now, IC.

But let's just forget about it and play things as they are. Like I said, I'll just assume IC that Surina's pursuers are doing a really good job of tracking her down speedily.

    IC: [ Rhea / Nero ] - Onu-Koro / Wise Man's Archive

Nero got to his feet, his body hazing into a vague grey silhouette as his Great Volitak activated. Noiselessly, he moved over to the doors and placed his audio receptor against a convenient keyhole, listening intently, one massive hand resting on the handle of his combat machete.

Back at the table, Rhea continued smoothly on, keeping her focus on Mar. "You can cook? Excellent. Splendid. I should hire you just for that."

She was grinning, a little flirtatiously. Not much, though.

"I have a small- to mid-size ocean-going steamship in the works at this moment, intended for use as a free-lancing hunter. Anti-piracy, maybe a bit of mercenary work, that sort of thing. You'd be a valuable addition, if all you say of yourself is true. I can promise you a flat ten percent of all tangible profits acquired during operations in which you are physically present, as well as very basic room and board. Would you be interested?"

  • IC: Mar (The Wise Man's Archive)

Well, wasn't this an interesting turn of events. A more-or-less permanent position.

I considered my options, thinking through the spoils offered to me. All in all, it would generally be a pretty decent upgrade from the way I lived now. I was used to getting by on very little, and similarly accustomed to both the ocean and to the travelling lifestyle. And basic room and board would also be welcome enough, considering I was often forced into getting by with neither.

Add to that Rhea's slight hint of physical attraction (she herself had that in abundance), and similarly the implication that I'd stay in Nero's good graces, it all seemed pretty sweet.

I looked at Karv. Now things changed a bit. I'd heard of ship cats before, but a ship wolf? I'd probably just have to accept the fact that he would need long walks whenever we hit land.

    "Yes"
