From his position at the other table, Chekquars had simply chuckled at the interactions going on at the table across from him. It wasn't until a time after Omega left that he spoke, letting confidence filter into his voice.

"I presume neither of you would be at all interested in forming a slight alliance of sorts? Working together to take down both of our targets, respectively?"

Clockwork awoke, annoyed as he remembered yesterday. He had gone to Phantom-on-the-Water, and found nothing useful. He resolved today to get some work done. He purposely acted sleepy as he opened his dorm door and made his way down the hall. First he intended to find a weapon, then he needed to find Palma. He had heard that she was teh person to ask if one needed to know something about Kraata or Rahkshi.

Omega ate the sludge. Despite everyone else thinking it was disgusting he didn't mind it. Plus being alone in the cafeteria gave him a plan on what to do today.

"But in all courtesy, and in respect to you, my client, I will take my informant's error as my own." She straightened. "What is it you require?"

Before answering, she turned to face Snake. "Your haste was admirable, but insufficiently rapid for my fair client, Exxan. I shall require a further payment."

She turned to Green, saving face with a smug upturn of the chin. "I am, indeed, brokering information and services. What do you require?"

"You're going to help me find and eliminate my own target," Exxan was feeling a lot more confident now. He had allies now.

He quickly wandered the bookshelves, gathering up the knives he'd hidden there and putting them into his satchel The piles of books had proven to be enough to bring down Caoutchouc; Exxan had never got to employ the second stage of his plan.

"We need to get him on his own," Exxan didn't say who "he" was. Phogen already knew, and he didn't want Green or Snake to know yet, in case one of them decided to warn the target.

"Maybe we could ambush him in one of the corridors or something." Exxan considered his options, trying to formulate a plan.

"We can't trap him here, not with this guy," he slammed his staff into Caoutchouc's exposed legs a few times, hopefully breaking them, "lying around."

Suddenly thinking of something, Clockwork walked into teh library, still appearing sleepy. Once out of sight beyond the bookshelves, he began to keenly browse the shelves, grabbing the occasional book. One of them was a two-inch-thick book on Toa, how to find them, how to avoid them, and most importantly, how to stop them.

    Vir's Dormitory

After leaving the refectory and washing their armor, Vir had gone to their dormitory. They weren't truly tired, but most mornings they came here a good hour or so before going to sleep. That hour was usually spent lying on the bed and trying to ward off that vague sense of loneliness that plagued them when they were tired. Now, though, Vir's mind was whirring rapidly through the events of the night, and plans for tomorrow night. How would Vir kill their target, and who would target Vir?

These thoughts cycled through their mind until they fell asleep.

OOC: I'm going backpacking this weekend and won't be back until mid sunday. Squid's locked himself in his room and expects no intruders. If you're the assassin, please be polite and use this time to set up a trap or something and not break into his room.

Caoutchouc manages a weak cough and some squirm-wriggling around under the books, he's at the edge of another bout of unconsciousness, the sitting on and whacking of his legs enough to rouse him.

    "Have to... Trick them..."

"EIIIIIIWHHHHHHAHAAAAAAAAAWIIEIEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIII" The bruised, crushed and buried rahkshi does his best scream, hoping to catch their attention.

"I WAS PUT UP TO THIS! Your real attacker is, is... Righ.... Right, h-"

Too much screaming, he falls back into the dreary grey of concussion. Hopefully his slurred protest was enough to cause doubt in their group.

Leaning past Green, Exxan hit Cautchouc in the head. Hard. Was he trying to say that Exxan's real assassin was here? It wasn't Green, and Phogen wasn't participating. That only left Snake.

But Exxan had already been lied to once about who was hunting him, so he wasn't going to jump to any conclusions this time around.

"How about you and Phogen stay here and talk things over," Exxan suggested to Snake. "Green and I will take Caoutchouc to Palma, and hopefully get to the bottom of who his target was. If he isn't willing to talk, maybe we won't take him to Palma..."

The Panrahk was walking into the Refectory when he saw some Rahkshi trying to skewer another with yet another standing gaurd. Man. Some Rahkshi. I mean, he understood if it was assassination. That silly thing, sure. Fun but silly. He hadn't volunteered. Was too late. Anyway. he was pretty sure actual death was a bad idea. So, Panrahk rescue force to the, uh, rescue. Shatter spun his Hammer before launching one of the metal balls at Xara

Clockwork stashed his books on a reasonably out-of-sight pillar and began flying through the Causeway.

The she-rahk heard the whirling sound of Shatter spinning up his chain, and spun to face him. The metal ball flew at her, but she'd already moved. Being thin and lanky made her more agile, and a harder target for a weapon like this.

The metal ball pounded into the wall behind where she had been, and she skimmed both of her swords along the trailing chain, sending jolts of electricity dancing from her palms, along the length of the swords, and into the chain towards Shatter's hands.

Honestly, why couldn't people mind their own business?

  • IC Mahrika

    Offshore

Mahrika took a deep breath of air, then dove back beneath the waves. He kicked quickly, propelling himself deep underwater. The sea at night was dark, even for a Rahkshi, but Mahrika was well accustomed to it. The cold and pressure hindered him even less; after all, he had the power of adaptation.

Soon he reached the seafloor, with enough breath to spare to kneel on the soft, mucky substrate and look around. Even this late at night, the sea was alive. Mahrika casually observed a little glowing Gadunka burst out of the soil and trap a passing fish with its claws and teeth.

It kills because it knows no other way to live... much like the Rahkshi of the past.

So what did that mean for the Rahkshi of the present: intelligent enough to choose peace, yet for the most part unwilling to do so?

Craving air once more, Mahrika pushed off the seabed with his feet and rose to the surface. He recalled reading about a civil war fought by Matoran in the city of Metru Nui. For many thousands of years those Matoran had gotten along in peace, but all at once a disagreement among them turned them to violence. The Makuta had to intervene, taking the war leaders and locking them in a museum until they could reach a peaceful agreement. But the leaders could not come to an agreement, and instead all killed each other. After that, the soldiers laid down their weapons and peace returned.

Perhaps all it takes to turn the common people into killers is a little push--remove it, and most are content to live in harmony.

It was very clear where the nudge against Corpus Rahkshi came from: the very heart of the Brotherhood of Makuta.

They want to make us soldiers to fight in their wars... and if we cooperate, we will do their job for them.

Mahrika was resolved not to let them coerce him.

A glance to the sky revealed that dawn was approaching. Mahrika floated for a couple more seconds, then turned and swam back towards the school. A visit to the refectory, perhaps, and then sleep.

Getting an injured student medical help, or looking for somewhere to hide a body?
