    "I'm almost done."

He had plugged in everything, except for the missing wire. He opened the box and found the wire that fit, and began fixing it up. If his repairs were successful, the console should be up and running in no time.

  • GM IC ???

"Mene Vental, at your service," he said, making every effort to be melodious and polite. "How goes the work on repairing communications?"

He was, implicitly, flattering her; he didn't expect them to have made much progress on that so far. But the being he was impersonating would have been nice and friendly to the lady-bots, and for now he felt an urge to stay in character.

GM IC KATHERINE AND GADGET, TOWER

The tower sprung to life in front of them. There was no sign of tampering, although with no other towers active in the perimeter, the signal was weak.

This tower was tuned to a standard shipping frequency, broadcasting repeatedly that Tranquis was under a Code 7 Hero alert and that ships were not to land there under any circumstances.

    GM NPC EVIL BRAIN CANNON

The cannon roared to life under Ghidora. Meanwhile, all the brains swarmed over Ghid Squid, trying to take him over. Some got taken out by Mr. Vyle's shots.

GM NPC CITIZENS OF TRANQUIS (EVENING)

The people of Tranquis inside of the hotel the Grand Tranq began waking up. Some of them were controlled by the evil brains, and some, the ones freed by Azure and Tracia, were not.

    GM IC TRACIA

"Everyone, get to the kitchen and find yourself a knife!" Tracia said. "It's our job to get those brains off of our friends!" She pointed to Azure Striker. "He's a Hero! He'll help us out!"

She watched as the newly freed citizens shoved their zombified friends into the stairs, heading for the ginourmous kitchen which had plenty of knives. Another citizen, impatient, threw a nightstand at a brain, killing it and making a bloody mess.

Tracia sighed. Well, at least this wasn't a boring day.

  • IC (As Plasmid): *Whatever the is going on here, I want in.* The villain ran up to the rooftop to witness Vyle blasting at Ghid near a cannon. *A cannon! Sweet, I gotta find out how much it costs for that!* He shouted to both of them at the top of his lungs. "Hey, how much are you two offering for this beauty! I'll help out the one with the lowest price and take out the competition!"

IC (As Rock Raider): *Well, the civilians are rescuing themselves, I can just take a potshot at this hero...* He was hanging back behind Azure and his pickaxe swung down towards his head.

OOC: The pickaxe won't be an instant kill, it'll just leave a dent or scratch.

  • IC: Azure Stryker/Top Floor of the Grand Tranq

First of all, Azure Stryker was quite tall compared to an actual hero, and thus the pickaxe, scratched his back. Annoying as it was, it was bleeding or anything.

    "Nice try."

He responded by blasting a couple sparks at his face. On the comms to the other heroes:

"I've rescued a couple civilians, and the owner of the hotel has organized them into a makeshift army against the brain-controlled ones here. I also have a hostile on my hands. I don't think I need backup now, but it would help."

    IC: Gadget Thompson/Secondary Comm Tower

"Hmm...having analyzed enough of the console, I could try and salvage some of the broken stuff here and attempt to make a makeshift signal amplifier. But I think we should try and get the other towers working as well. Combined, they should make for a stronger connection."

However, he played around with the console, using his technopathy to guide him, in the hopes of being able to reach Hero Factory without having to do either.

"There should be, but you're the only one I've seen since I landed," he replied, suddenly focusing his attention back towards his primary objective as the report from inside the hotel became audible. "Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a building to go clear."

With that, Riot attempted to continue his way towards The Grand Tranq, keeping the other Hero just inside his peripheral vision as he did so.

  • IC: Splint

The second it took Aza to recover from the shield blow was more than enough time for Splint to prepare for her next attack. He wasn't far enough away to dodge it entirely, though. The shot grazed his arm and a small piece of armor chipped off. Before it hit the ground, Splint was already charging forwards to where the shield lay, between him and Aza. He dove forwards and slid, landing with his hand on the shield.

  • IC Aza:

All too easy. The strange morphing weapon was apparently the Hero's -only- weapon as well. And now he was in perfect undodgable shooting range.

So of course that's exactly what Aza did to Splint as his hand touched the shield.

One shot. center of mass. at this range, there was no need for anything fancy.

    IC Kaiba Blader:

In the wilderness, a modified dropship lifted off, plants being blown about from the jetwash. The typically yelow and black air/spacecraft had been painted a dark black and red. It had also been outfitted with powerful laser cannons and a single missile launcher.

The proto-Hero inside had..... acquired the craft many years ago.

As he flew over the Grand Tranq, Kaiba looked down at the battle below.

The golden hero he'd freed was already losing in another battle. Pathetic.

Perhaps one of the other Heroes would be up to the job of facing him in battle. Perhaps.

  • GM NPC EVIL BRAIN CANNON

As Ghid Squid fell backward, most of the brains leaped off, though a few got crushed or slashed. The rest skittered back to the canon, trying to turn it to face the Hero on the ground.

    GM IC GADGET

Gadget would find that by tuning the power up to maximum on the HF frequency, he could hear blinks of words.

    "destabilization-"

    "Momentarily-"

His technopathic abilities would tell him that this tower was designed to bounce off the main tower for interplanetary communications - this one was designed to be a booster to spread that ability over the whole planet, not to be the center of that function itself.

GM NPC CITIZENS OF TRANQUIS (NEAR RIOT)

A bunch of brain-controlled citizens burst through the door near where Riot was trying to enter, although what they were fleeing from was not apparent yet.

  • IC: Splint

Splint had been expecting to get shot. He didn't really want to, of course, but there wasn't really a way around it - he needed the shield back. The blast hit him near where the first one had earlier, and there was now a decently sized dent in his back armor. It hurt. A lot. But he didn't have time to worry about the pain right now.

He turned the shield into a chain with a bladed tip and got up, then swung the chain at Aza's feet, hoping to trip her up or at least distract her momentarily.

"We should probably stick together. Two heads, and all that." Artemus followed Riot toward the hotel, being careful not to actually get any closer to him.

As they approached the building, what seemed like a flood of bots came surging out through the nearest door, each with a slimy, organic-looking thing clamped to his head. Huh. I've never actually seen an evil brain in person before, Artemus reflected as he readied himself to disable any that got too close. Unpleasant things, to be sure.

  • IC Jet [sunny Square]: Finally regaining consciousness, Jet simply lay where he was as he tried to get his bearings. The blast wound to his chest hurt terribly, but at least he was still able to function. He could hear Splint and Rocka continuing to fight the sibling villains nearby, though it was difficult to tell how his fellow Heroes were faring, not without revealing that he was awake, anyway.

Well, there's nothing for it, he thought, and heaved himself up. And as he did, he saw that Splint had managed to immobilize Aza, at least partially. An opening, perhaps?

With a deep breath and a wince of pain, Jet charged up his gauntlets, ran up behind Aza, and fired a punch right at her spine. There wouldn't be as much strength behind said blow as he'd like, not in his weakened state, but right now all he cared about was making sure a pulsed-energy wave was sent through Aza's system, hopefully paralyzing her to some degree -- if the blow landed, that is.

Quickly assessing the situation, Riot dashed to his left as the first of the infected attempted to pass him, drawing his weapons and lashing out with his right arm so that the underside of his gun's barrel would impact the spikes of the Brain and cause it to lose control of its host. As he did this, he raised the other, leveling it towards the fleeing crowd and firing off a few shots at the more exposed parasites after making sure that none of the civilians would position themselves in the path of his individual trajectories.

"Whether you decide to tag along for the ride or not, however, is ultimately your decision," he continued. "Just don't expect me to babysit you."

The kick connected, though with little leverage and space, it simply clanked uselessly against Ezec's armored chassis.

The White and Gold behemoth laughed, a rumbling sound that was as vile as it was powerful.

    "Game over, Hero."

He drove his sword downwards, driving it through steel and stone.

    IC John Striker:

Ah, so it was a simple roundabout.

Striker keyed his comm once more.

    "Striker to control."

    IC Kathrine Scarlet:

"Alright, we have the signal back. Gadget, you stay with Saracen, make sure the bots don't retake the tower. Ask Control to run a check on this frequency, it's the one the tower was tuned to."

An info packet was wirelessly transferred to Gadget.

"Now, if you boys will excuse me, I'm off to get the Civilians to safety."

With a wink and a grin, I fired my thrusters, headed back to the Grand Tranq.

    GM NPC ROCKA

Rocka could do little; his sword arm was pinned and his leg was being sliced in half. This was one of those situations where he really could use some backup...or an idea. An idea would be better.

He just kept his shield between him and the villain, hoping to avoid further damage.

    GM NPC ZIB

"Striker! How goes the hunt for our captured heroes?" Zib asked. "I'm so glad to hear you come in."

Meanwhile, Sarcen's and Katherine's conversation hadn't escaped his notice. "Gadget, I want you to run your technopathy on the main tower, see if you can spot anything awry. Sarcen, I'm not sure what you should be doing, but you're doing a good job now."

"The frequency the secondary tower was tuned to was a standard shipping channel - that's not an issue. As for the one on the main tower, we're still working on it. It appears to be largely encrypted and we haven't broken the cipher."

    GM NPC KARTER

"Sir, we have an emergency." A bot said, running up to Karter. "We can't find Stringer or Bulk, sir. Or the person that was guarding them, sir."

"Are they on the surface?" Karter said, sounding the alarm. "They know about Project Sunstorm. They cannot be allowed to escape."

"That's not likely, sir," the bot said. "We put tracking chips in them when we knocked them out. They are underground, sir."

Karter sighed and took the readout from the bot. "Go get them. And show them the detonator - see if they know of a way to disable it."

The bot nodded and ran off.

Karter himself grabbed a machine gun and a machete off of the wall, grimacing as robots fitted bulky armor onto him. He hated fighting. Hated it. But Dumacc had proved to be worse at battle strategy and just plain flat fighting than he was, so he was stuck with the dirty job.

If it was any consolation, he had carefully designed his armor with springs for maximum impact resistance, and the machine gun to endure just about any environment. The inner surface had vents to help with cooling. His visor sprang to life with readouts on everything from vitals to ammo, and more vision powers than most Heroes would have in their entire lives.

    He was ready.

"Dumacc, I'm going to go take out those Heroes in the wretched tower." His voice echoed, as ten of his robots marshalled to his side. "We need more reliable communications than the blips the Heroes allow us."

"Affirmative, Karter." Dumacc said. "Take 'em out. Wish I could be there with you, buddy."

    He headed up the stairs.

  • IC: Saracen Rune - Main Communications Tower.

"Right now, all I'm doing is babysitting this stupid tower," he sighed, fiddling with a few of the settings on his rifle, "I'm almost wishing they'd attack it already, just so I'd have something to do..."

  • GM IC ???

"Pardon me, my lady" the villain said, having heard enough communications buzz through Reyna's helmet. "Duty calls. I will speak with you later."

And with a dutiful sweep of his cape, "Mene Vantal" walked swiftly to the base of the tower, and then began running up the stairs two at a time. He arrived smoothly at the top, coming within Sarcen's and Gadget's range of view.
