  • Are Blackouts considered ingenious?

There are possibly hundreds of ways to trigger a blackout and hundreds of steps that make up those various possibilities. Programming is all about sub-routines that combine to form a single action. You can't just cause a blackout; you have to, for example, enter the SCPU and terminate all connections to outside devices. But in order to enter the SCPU you have to get through its password and ID checks. In order to do that, you need a password-discovering program. For the password-discovering program to work, you need to either find a "backdoor" connection to the server or find a way to bypass the password limit. The list of sub-routines goes on.To find an "ingenious" hacking solution, I mean you need to be able to formulate strategies that use very efficient sequences of sub-routines.
Digging this up: So I've been busy since I tried to have Amnchey set her little mega-virus into motion. I was planning on doing a lot more, and then life happened. So, any response to that, or should I just pick up the thing where I left it?
I did respond to the attempt here, where I blocked the uploading of a program to Techna's mainframe. However, in a series of posts that ended with this one, Kovolta's secretly pro-Hacker character Awk managed to stop the download while he was in the no-security zone inside (and only inside, mind you :P) the Security and Defense Library, as he had been invited there by another Toa Techna. So now, Amnchey's connection has been terminated and her upload stopped, but the download of the tracing program also stopped, so she's kind of safe -- except Torch knows that a hacking attempt came from Pro Coding Corporation, so Amnchey had better watch her back.
Yeah, that's where part of me not being active really hurt me. I was planning on making immediate responses to things such as that, and then life. XD

As LL said, the download was already blocked by my character Awk, but whatever...

  • Is it possible to control an NPC for a little while? I don't exactly anticipate her becoming an actual PC, but if I need to to control her for as logn as I probably need her to, and to reference her and such, I'll make a profile. I just wish to know first. =P

  • That's not a problem, I don't really intend for this NPC to actually do any fighting if I don't make a profile. =) Mostly just a way to introduce the character that I'm going to put up for approval soon. I just have to make that be a little balanced, because the inspiration character(Who I'm thinking of maybe naming the same, since we already have characters named after Video Game characters. =P) has methods of extending his skills, and since my character wouldn't have any native powers, I was thinking of it being similar, within reason.Like, the source character wouldn't have any truly uber powers even with these powers, and they'd all even more or less be below the level of a Toa, and he also wouldn't have any way to copy powers(Hint toward who I'm thinking of making), however, he can do stuff within reason, like, say, maybe have a chip that allows him to jump higher than normal. Basically like implants, but given that he doesn't actually have implants, the 'chips' would be in place of them. There'd only be three slots in total, so...I'll work on the profile and we can go from there, of course, since it's helpful to actually see what I mean. =P

  • You're in my (characters) territory now, Darkon. At least for a while, the 'dynamic duo' may be content to sit and watch how this plays out, but you can't expect that to last long. Loki and Jotun made a very bad mistake entering The Glitch Paradox.Once your little bout of character developing is over, well... time for the punishment of foolishness.-Toa Levacius Zevhor :flagusa:

  • They have the ADR to police, but a few actual guards still remain (Blade and Krayzik both have enforcer characters I believe). Also the Toa Techna.Toa Techna are the GM and Co-GMs. There are Toa on Techna, but only the five of them are 'Toa Techna'. The sixth member died prior to the game and one of them is rogue. That's it for them though, they're the highest security officers in the city.-Toa Levacius Zehvor :flagusa:EDIT: I've edited the Yellow Pages on Page 7.

    1. It does. Characters may only be up to as powerful as one toa. Anything above is not allowed...And that's not to mention the mask and element restrictions.2. Naw. LL already promised us that he'd award kanohi to the chars of those who are all-around playing well.

I don't recall saying I'd only reward good players with Kanohi. It all depends on the player and his / her character. A worthy prize might be a Kanohi -- or it might be a lucky break.

  • I think Darkon was originally talking about a numerical character limit -- in which case, no, I'd rather people not end up with enough characters that they have more of an influence on the RPG than anyone else, not to mention that they might be overexerting themselves.EDIT: Ninja'd by Darkon. My point still stands, though.

I haven't thought of that, but now that you ask... There are outposts around the edge of Techna, against the barrier, but there are also at least two in Central Square, one to the east and one to the west. A GM will roleplay as the NPC guard chief.

If we make a character, and they die do they count towards the maximum Character Limit?

It depends on how that character is killed. I don't want people making characters only to kill them off later just because they grew boring. If the character dies an honorable and fair death, it won't count toward your character limit; if you have him die randomly and unreasonably, it will.

Well I have a story arc that I'm about to start, and it starts with a character dying. Do I need to make a profile and post it in the Character Topic, or can I just run the person as a NPC? I would normally just post it in the Character Topic and not even ask, but I don't want to waste one character spot.
