IC: (Torch/Library)

He had no idea why everyone around him was making so much noise. This was a library.

He turned his attention to the loudest, a rahk apparently covered in flammable vegetation.

"Could you quieten down a bit?" he asked irritably, before turning back to the History.

IC: Green

Green was still writing.

IC: Dodge-256

"So you found the person who set the fire?" Dodge asked mechanically, "walking" on their crutches towards the group. They slowly sat down, listening in.

IC: Jayar / The Library

"No, it is not. Death is a final punishment, to be inflicted only upon the most cruel and unchanging of villains. Perhaps he cannot change - but have we given him the chance? And if he cannot, does burning a dozen books qualify him among the most evil beings of time? Hardly! I cannot permit such a harsh punishment to be carried out against one whose crimes are so minor in comparison."

IC: Ivan / The Gym

Seeing his Rahkshi companion collapse upon the ground, the Ice Bat fluttered over to an observing Rahkshi of Limited Invulnerability and squeaked out a plea for help.

OOC: That's Stronghold. If he would deliver Vlad to the infirmary I would be gratified.

IC: Abyssium

"Okay, lemme try this. What's your name?" Abyssium asked the pyro, intending to try to figure out why he set the place on fire.

IC: (Torch/Library)

Torch was forced to look up again.

"Who's asking?"

IC: Abyssium

"I am. My name's Abyssium."

IC: Root - Library

To dare to speak to him like that, asking him to be silent in his wrath! Oh, were this damsel not here he would show the devil how much pain plants can inflict!

But to see one so lovely so distraught tugged on Root's heartstrings. He calmed his rant and stepped back beside her. Yes, the villain deserved to die, but not in the presence of this fair maiden. The other bearers of justice knew his feelings, so he would watch their attempts at mediation.

IC: (Torch/Library)

"Is that guy funny in the head, or what?" Torch asked "Abyssium" in hushed tones, putting his hand to his mouth conspiratorially and gesturing to Root.

OOC: Oh, the irony!

IC: Dodge-256

"It is in your best interests to comply, you know," Dodge remarked to Torch. "Compliance will be rewarded."

IC: Chekquars (Library)

The Darkness Rahkshi had stepped back, mulling over Exxan's words before eventually speaking again. 

"It would appear that we are divided, then. Some of us wish to simply remove the problem from the world entirely, while others feel that our pyro is just misguided. Neither plan is perfect, though I myself would prefer to not cause a loss of life over a matter as simple as books. While knowledge is invaluable, and the Library as a whole could be impossible to replace, all that was lost were a few dozen books."

He pauses before continuing, glancing at Torch in the meantime. 

"It's clear enough that our arsonist suffers from instability in his mental facilities, so I doubt that this was anything deliberate towards an individual or the Library as a whole. At the same time, he obviously has no concept of what fire can do to harm books or even others. Whether you take this to mean that he should be removed from the picture entirely or helped to understand this concept is your choice. I stand by my idea of banning him from the Library, and that is all that needs to be done. You could still help him if you wish, but I don't think his life should end for it."

Chekquars spins on his heel and stalks back towards the shelves, but looks over his shoulder to say one last thing.

"Perhaps a bit of perspective would help. Would a young Kraata be punished for going somewhere they weren't meant too? They don't have enough control over their minds to truly understand what to not do, where to not go. I feel our arsonist may be much the same way."

And he slipped into the shadows, deciding that this entire issue had quite quickly evolved beyond what his mastermind persona could work with. It would be best to stay out of it as much as possible for the time being, lest he left himself become even more out of character. It was tough to be evil in the face of utter death.

Zakaro

IC: (Torch/Library)

"Right, can I go now, cos this book is interesting and all, but it's kind of confusing me how repetitive all the names are, all ending in "ok" or "ak" or "kann" an' stuff."

Torch rummaged around in his satchel absent-mindedly, trying to find something to eat, when his hands closed on--

 --Kick hadn't taken them all, had he? Hah!

IC: Aeros

Aeros saw a strange look appear in the pyrotechnics eyes, and he immediately though, 'oh lord, he has a match...'. So, Aeros did the only thing he could think of: He grabbed the pyromaniacs wrist, yanked it out of his satchel, saw the match, and took the match. Or rather, he tried to.

IC: Squid

"Any way is fine by me, as long as it is fair and non-violent. I agree with the female Rahkshi and the Darkness Rahkshi."

Squid gestured towards Melody and Chekquars.

Ic: Hashan (Gym - Library)

Hashan slowly backed out of the room and ran back into the library.

Ic: Siren (Library)

Siren just shook her head.

Ooc: John, you're making the end of the fight seem much more comical than I first anticipated.

OOC: Vlad is meant as somewhat of a comical character.

IC: Jayar / The Library

Jayar saw a Rahkshi of Laser Vision leap at Torch, and with lightning speed whipped out his staff and held it in front of the attacker's chest, blocking him from reaching the Fire Resistance Rahk.

"Don't you understand? Attacking him will make it worse."

OOC: Not really any way Aeros would know from the look in his eyes, but anyway...

IC: (Torch/Library)

 -Except that Torch's hand wasn't holding a match when it came out of his satchel, it was in fact holding a sandwich, which Aeros then proceeded to grab out of Torch's hand for some reason.

"Hey!" Torch said for the third time in as many minutes. "That's smoked lava-eel!" He snatched the sandwich back.

Well, nobody had answered his question about if he could go or not, so Torch took that as a "yes", since they were seemingly uninterested enough to completely ignore him. 

He rose and began to walk out taking the History on the way.

"Do I have to ask a librarian if I want to borrow this or what?" he ask the world in general as he made it to the door.

IC: Rider

Rider had done his job and made his suggestion. Now he was bored. He decided to move back to the gym. He saw the ice bat from earlier squeaking for help. Rider ran up to it and close to it was his presumed master. Rider picked him up and took him to the infirmary, Claws trying to play with the ice bat.

IC: Xara/Exxan - Library.

What Torch seemed to have forgotten was that Xara was still standing near the doorway, blocking any chance of escape. Her voice came out in a venomous hiss. "Not so fast." she stepped forwards, "Perhaps it's time I gave my opinion? As much as I really would love to kill him, I say we simply stop him from being able to make fires. Break his hands, maybe remove them entirely?" 

Exxan shivered, realising just how similar Xara's suggestion sounded to an idea he himself had. An idea he knew was far too drastic for this situation. "Here's a thought," he spoke up, feeling embarrassed that he hadn't considered this option before, "how about we ask Torch here what he thinks a deserving punishment is for his crimes." 

IC: Era - Infirmary.

"Anyone who wants to come can come. Mahrika especially. I want to see exactly where these Visorak of yours were." 

IC: Hoto - Infirmary

Hoto jumped to Era's side, nearly bursting with excitement. Finally, a chance to visit Nynrah without a terrible assignment to complete!

IC: Fang - Infirmary

Fang watched the group form and leave. At least he would get a chance to rest without all these interruptions.

OOC: I'm going to be gone for a while, so just bring Hoto along and I'll respond to any misadventures that befall them when I get back.

IC Mahrika

Infirmary, RE: Era

"Then I will go." He drew his trident and stood beside Era, not waiting for her to change her mind.

IC: Anubissium

"Thanks. My name's Anubissium. What's yours?" she asked, going over to stand by her as well.

IC: Abyssium

Abyssium scowled. "No, he is not funny in the head. Don't call him that." As Exxan suggested his idea, Abyssium spoke up. "I agree with Exxan. Let's see what Torch thinks of the severity of his crimes and what his punishment should be."

IC: Bullseye/Infirmary

"Hey, I'll join if you will have me as well," he stood up. He turned to Omega.

"I think you probably won."

He took his cards back and looked to the group.

IC: Era - Infirmary.

"Let's go, then." Era said, turning towards the door. She laughed a little as more Rahkshi joined her. Those with sight following a blind girl? The irony of the situation was not lost on her. 

IC: Dodge-256

"From what I've seen so far," Dodge said, slightly louder than usual, "He might not realize what he did was wrong. I won't say anymore, because Chekquars said it before I could."

...

"Though personally I'd just take him to Palma, get him a psychiatric checkup, and then throw him into either therapy or solitary confinement."

OOC: *Insert epic Phoenix Wright music here.*

IC: Pyre

Pyre burst into the room.

"Stop all of you! This is no fair trial. All rahkshi have the right to a lawyer. Well I will be his lawyer. I will prove that the defendant is not guilty due to insanity!"

Pyre slammed his hands on the desk and pulled out a piece of paper.

"According to this piece of evidence (Pyro's student record): Even for a rahkshi, Torch would be considered insane, having an unnerving obsession with fire. His pyromania can be disturbing to some...well,most, actually."

"Pyromania is when an individual fails to resist impulses to start fires in order to relieve tension or for instant gratifiation. The defendant had this condition. THEREFORE HE CANNOT HAVE RESISTED THE URGE TO SET THE FIRE AND IS INNOCENT DUE TO INSANITY!"

Pyre slammed his palms on the desk again.

"THE ONLY PUNISHMENT HE DESERVES IS THERAPY OR SOLITARY CONFINEMENT!"

IC: Jayar / The Library


"We had come to a similar conclusion ourselves," said Jayar. "Some of us, at least. But even if he is innocent by insanity, we still must prevent him from harming anyone by that same insanity. I agree that therapy is a good step, but solitary confinement for him seems unlikely to be granted to us. After all, he got into the school in the first place. He will be expected to attend classes, insane or not. Thus I return to the idea of confiscating his tools and of appointing someone to watch him, as she," he pointed to Melody, "has agreed to do."


IC: Ivan / The Gym


When the Limited Invulnerability Rahk didn't respond, Ivan flew into his face and squeaked frantically, hoping to get his attention.

OOC: ArcticFreeze, that's Stronghold.

IC: Exxan - Library.

Exxan gave Pyre a long look. "Do you mind If I have a look at your student record?" he asked, recalling something he'd heard once about Pyre being a cook. "Because I'm not certain you have the qualifications to act in the role of lawyer. Besides... no one has conducted a study into the mental processes of our generation of Rahkshi. Our kind has only been around for a few months, after all."

He grinned victoriously. "The word "insanity" has no application in this situation, and as such, you argument is rendered moot. Now, unless you have an actual suggestion other than "let him go because he's crazy" I suggest you make yourself scarce so the rest of these fine students can decide on a realistic punishment." 

IC: Pyre

"First of all, if you listened to the entire argument I said that he should go through therapy or solitary confinement. Also having a person to watch him would be a good idea. We aren't just letting the crazy person go. Lets be diplomatic instead of just saying 'break his hands'. Also a person can defend themselves in a case even if they don't have the qualifications for a lawyer."

IC: Melody-Library

Melody nodded when she was referred to, but continued to sit quietly.

IC: Revenge-Refactory/Halls

Done eating, Revenge put his tray away and walked out of the Refactory.

IC: Deadeye

Deadeye played with the stress ball enthusiastically, loving the feel of it. It seemed to calm him down, at least a little. He looked around at the rest of the people in the infirmary, his twisted smile never leaving his face.

IC: Exxan - Library.

"We are being diplomatic." Exxan said impatiently. "That's why we are attempting to conduct a fair trial. But when people like you keep barging in here and trying to let him off scott-free, things get a little difficult." He was becoming angry. Clearly, he'd underestimated the intelligence and resolve of the other students. It seemed that they were just going to keep sitting around and bickering instead of working together to come to a reasoned decision. 

He was beginning to think this whole exercise had been a waste of his time. 

C: Pyre

This rahkshi was being annoying.

"As I said. We aren't letting him free to do as he pleases. Therapy and/ or solitary confinement is an option. Plus all you guys want to do is to break his hands and destroy his things. I agree with actually with some of these rahkshi's solution. Get a person to watch him to make sure he doesn't do anything bad. Also we should start giving him therapy instead of yelling at him. Also listen to what that other rahkshi said. (Chekquars)

OOC: He doesn't refer to them by name because he doesn't know their names.

"Also key word: 'Attempting a fair trial'."

OOC: OH! Sorry, John. I thought that Stronghold had went to the Library.

IC: Stronghold/Gym ---> infirmary

He woke up to see the ice bat of the vampire-like Rahkshi all up in his face. Once he saw that his partner was unconsciousness, he proceeded to run up and grab Vlad.

"KARZ! Sorry, friend. I'll take your pal to the infirmary straight away!"

He ran to the infirmary and placed him into a cot. He saw Bullseye join a group and asked him what was going on.

IC: Bullseye and Stronghold/Infirmary

Bullseye explained to his brother about Visorak on the island. Thinking that Stronghold's power may have its uses, he decides to bring Stronghold along. They follow the group out of the infirmary.

 "Also key word: 'Attempting a fair trial'." 

OOC: Yes, attempting, because posers like Pyre keep interrupting and trying to take over precedings. 

IC: Xara/Exxan - Library.

Xara felt the need to intervene now. Speaking up from behind Pyre, she pointed out: "I was the only one who suggested breaking his hands. Since no one took that suggestion seriously, it's obvious I don't represent the majority of opinions here." 

"Why are you still arguing with me, then?" Exxan interrupted, glaring at Pyre. For someone pretending to be a lawyer, he had zero understanding of how a trial worked. "If you think you have an idea for how he should be punished, discuss it with the other students. That's the whole point of this trial."

IC: Chekquars (Library)

"I wouldn't call this much of a trial, more of a judgement. We've established his guilt and are discussing punishments and solutions. Besides, we seem to want the same relative thing, and yet we're going in total circles."

A clearly annoyed Rahkshi of Darkness slipped out of the shadows and focused his glare upon Pyre for a second before sliding over the others assembled there. After insuring he had all's attention, he spoke. 

"Let us vote. I propose that the arsonist be put under constant supervision and optional rehabilitation by our willing guard," here he gestures to Melody, " until the point that she feels he has sufficiently improved to understand what he can and cannot do. As well, any remaining fire-producing devices that he has shall be confiscated, to be held by one of our number. Once the arsonist has proven himself, he may retrieve his possessions. Any against?"

Zakaro

IC: Rider

"I volunteer as guard." Rider said, scratching Claws' back.

OOC: All I was doing was trying to have a little fun. Getting mad at me doesn't do anything. I wanted to add a little bit of humor with the lawyer thing and you go ballistic. Plus I didn't try to take over. Why do you have to be so irascible?

IC: Pyre


Pyre said to Xara, "Breaking his hands was an example of your suggestions. Others wanted him killed."

Then he turned to Exxan. "I decided not to talk about it with the other students because they want him killed. Having him peacefully treated would most likely have them respond angrily like you."

Then he looked at Chequars. "The same suggestion I had. Except somebody had to go ballistic when I suggested it in my creative way. When I pretended to be a lawyer I wanted to lighten up the situation and add a little humor to this trial. Or as you all it judgement."

"You people wanted to kill him. Is it wrong to bring in some humor to take your minds off of killing this rahkshi?"

IC: Melody-Library

Melody slowly raised her hand in affirmation to the proposal.

IC: Revenge-Hallways

Revenge wandered aimlessly for a little, trying to figure out what to do next.

IC: Jayar / The Gym

"I second Chekquar's motion." said Jayar, glad the Darkness Rahkshi had stepped between Exxan and Pyre's bickering.

IC: Vlad / The Infirmary

Vlad dreamed he was dueling himself. One of him was lit with a golden fire, and his eyes blazed with hunger, bright as the sun. The other was completely unremarkable, a normal Rahkshi.

He watched as Vlad dove at Vlad's neck, and Vlad responded by grabbing him around the neck and punching him, hard, in the face -

Light filled his vision. It took him a moment to realize he had opened his eyes. Beside him, as if through water, came Ivan's happy squeak at his awakening. He tried to sit up, and his head spun. He lay back down and looked about the room, moving his head as little as possible. Beside him was a ragged Rahkshi with a blackened headplate, but a mostly white carapace and heaplate that seemed to have been white before being charred all to Karzahni. And, most importantly, pointed teeth. Had he found another like himself?

"Excuse me," said Vlad, weakly, to Fang, "vould you happen to be a Rahkshi of Hunger, like myself?"

IC: Pyre

"I also second his idea."
