It wasn't that much longer before the Black Queen returned home. She slowly slid onto her bed, watching Kristen a bit as the girl slept. Her fingers then slowly played with her hair, a small smile on her lips. She looked so innocent in her sleep, hardly the monster Alaric had described earlier.

It was at Lynae's touch that Kristen awoke. The girl's eyes snapped open, searching about. Something was off to her. Something that just didn't seem right-

    Who was touching her?

"L-lady Lynae!" Kristen exclaimed, starting to sit up, surprised at her arrival, "I... I didn't hear you walk in..."

  • IC:

He came to in a car, huddled up under his own jacket in the backseat. Someone must have made a turnaround upon Romulus' arrival at the Hellfire Manor and come back for him. He reached for his phone to see who it was but felt no square bulge in his pants pocket where his cell normally sat comfortably. His dim, tired eyes squinted in dull pain at the dashboard; his phone was there, in front of shotgun, vibrating away.

    Unread text from:

    Anberlyn Worthington.

Worse. Seven unread texts from Anberlyn Worthington. Someone reached up to grab his phone, took one look at the name, and then cast it onto the dashboard again effortlessly. It took him a second to recognize that he knew the bracelet she was wearing. The diamond glinted under the neon of the city square and pierced into Ric's memory with a ray of light. "Lacey? Whahappen?"

"It's quarter past three in the morning, and you're incredibly drunk, sir," his intrepid secretary reminded him. "Thirty-five minutes ago, you called me asking if I could drive down to 'the parking lot' in East Rutherford and scalp some Super Bowl tickets on behalf of the Vice President so he would 'owe you another solid.' I came as fast as I could and pulled you out of the bar eighteen minutes ago. In that time, you've proposed to me half a dozen times, called me five different names in the process, and only two of them can even possibly be derived from my real name. You have nearly caused two multi-car collisions and you haven't touched a steering wheel once tonight. And finally, it appears that through a series of contrived and insidious circumstances, unknown forces have conspired to throw a brick through your bedroom window."

"...A brick?" Alaric asked groggily, before cursing as they hit a pothole. The city lights were merciless here, and they beamed down on him like children at picture day.

"A brick," Lacey confirmed sagely. "I've taken a few liberties and set your bedding up on the couch. At your word, I'll dig up the hand cannon and send return fire within the hour."

"At ease, trooper," Ric grumbled, rolling around in the back seat to try and avoid the light. "Thistledown's a man eater."

"Yes, sir," said the poor girl, to whom Ric really needed to throw a bone with pay raise affixed. "You're home, sir. Forgive me for saying this, but I doubt you're to be trusted with basic muscle function. I can carry you."

Alaric opened his mouth to drunkenly tell her how ridiculous that was, and how thanks to his flight-oriented anatomy every ounce of him was muscle, and that there was no way that he could be bench pressed by his secretary, but when she stepped out of the car and slung him over the shoulder by his knees whatever was still conscious in him reconsidered. She carried him like he was nothing but a child's security blanket down the hall and up the stairs, to the point where finally he had to ask, "Lacey...Lacey, uh..."

    "Sir?"

    "Jenkins? Morgan?"

    "Marko, sir."

"Polo," insisted Alaric as they cut off of the stairs at a hallway about three floors below Ric's room to seek an elevator. He didn't say another word until she stopped at his floor and carried him to the foyer. True to her word, Alaric's secretary had laid out blankets and pillows enough to keep him warm for a fortnight onto the longest and widest of the sofas. He smiled sleepily even as she tossed him (tossed him!) with her free hand (one handed!) onto the couch and covered him up gently. She'd made it halfway to the door when a question popped into Ric's head.

"Lacey?" he asked sleepily, and she stopped and turned with a guarded half-smile.

    "Sir?"

"First, it's Ric. You know it's Ric."

"Yes, sir." He reminded her again that his name was Ric.

"Where were you when I called?" he asked then, the question surprisingly sober. Lacey thought about it for a second.

"I was here, sir--Ric. Working. The Terrigen took off for Africa three hours ago, as you requested. I wanted to see it through."

"You can't have your eyes and ears on the plane. You have a home life to take care of."

"Not particularly," she said, her smile a little sad now. "Will that be all for tonight, sir?"

"Yeah." She started to walk again, but something in her smile had frozen Ric, and so he called her again. She didn't show a hint of impatience when she turned around. "It's Ric, you know."

    "I know."

He hesitated a second, fighting off sleep even as the warmth of the multiple covers flowed over him. "You do more to keep this place running than I do half the time. You're the wind beneath my wings. Semi-literally."

Lacey practically beamed at him, with a grin so white it nearly woke him up. "I love you, too, Ric. Good night."

Somewhere between the point that she flicked out the light in his foyer and the point where she closed the door, Alaric Carlisle fell asleep.

  • NPC-Kris Kross:

Kris looked scornfully down at the would-be assassin, snorting at the man's words. "You stuck out like a sore thumb, kid," he said, his voice - a light, airy tenor - at odds with both his tone and scornful, annoyed expression. "Next time you want to try and kill somebody, do it where you can't be seen." Before Conrad could respond - or even protect himself - Kris's leg shot out for the barrel of the man's rifle, crushing it, in Kris's own words later, "Tighter'n when my dad crushed a can against his skull." He stepped forwards, purposefully forcing Conrad to move back towards Marky Mark. No better way to deal with the guy than by putting him in between two rocks...or maybe one rock and Marky's hard place. Nobody really knew for sure what Marky liked, but they had their guesses.

"Now, I would appreciate it if you would tell us just what it is you're doing, and why, and who it's for. You have two minutes, starting one minute ago."

    IC:

Well isn't this just wonderful. Conrad's gears were turning while he stared the metal winged blue 'human' down with cold eyes. "I guess I'll go for the brutally honest approach." he shrugged.

"I was sent by Hydra to recapture two targets and I was planning on to cap one of their friends in the head when the two of you swooped down. Does that answer your question?"

    IC:

Someone approached Warren slowly as he showed Betsy around the school, a disgruntled and wet Christine came up to him; dripping water all over the carpet.

    "Ahem, Warren?"

"Sorry to inerrupt, Ah think I need to report something. One of your students has died."

  • The young new English teacher watched in interest as teacher and student interacted. Is this what she should expect from her new students? Not that it was bad, just a bit more relaxed than what she was used to. Then again, mutant children would probably be a lot different in demeanor, she certainly had been.

After some time John finally came back inside the mansion. He walked through the school silently, lost in his own thoughts. Deciding it was time he got that hot shower and shaved his face. He climbed up the stairs until he was wandering down the hallway of the school until he came closer to two figures. John paused when he instantly recognized the blonde female. It was Liliana. Oh god. John thought wanting to hide. I wonder if she will even recognize me... John was sure he looked strangely different now then he had.

With his white techno-organic eyes Daken had installed, his hair shaved down short, his gaunt and frail apperance and the thick black facial hair covering the lower half of his face, not to mention his new scars from being tortured. Yeah, John was pretty sure she wouldn't know who he was.

Ic: "Oh! Certainly," Quinn quickly said, then tacked on, "Sorry about that -- it was a slip of the tongue. Follow me, then," he said and led the way down the hallway. His boots clicked softly as he strode quickly, challenging Lilliana to keep pace with the swift student.

"When were you a student here?" he asked her and gave her a sidelong glance to check on how she followed.
